Introduction:

The Students’ Council of M.D.S. Vidya Mandir Inter College is a representative body elected from among the students, aimed at fostering leadership, responsibility, discipline, and cooperation. It acts as a bridge between the student body and school administration, promoting a healthy and democratic school environment.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

  1. To promote leadership qualities and organizational skills among students.
  2. To develop a sense of responsibility, cooperation, and discipline.
  3. To act as a bridge between students and the school authorities.
  4. To encourage student participation in academic, co-curricular, and social activities.
  5. To represent students’ views, ideas, and concerns constructively.
  6. To organize and manage school events, celebrations, and community outreach programs.

1. STRUCTURE OF THE STUDENTS’ COUNCIL:

A. The Students’ Council shall comprise of:

  • School Captain
  • Head Boy
  • Head Girl
  • Vice Head Boy
  • Vice Head Girl
  • Cultural Captain
  • Sports Captain (Boys)
  • Sports Captain (Girls)
  • Discipline In-charges
  • Literary Secretary
  • Environment Secretary
  • Editorial Board Secretary

B. House Captains (For each House – Bhagat, Subhash, Aazad, Patel):

  • House Captain (Boys)
  • House Captain (Girls)
  • Vice-Captain (Boys)
  • Vice-Captain (Girls)

C. Class Representatives (CRs):

One boy and one girl from each class (from Class VI onwards) nominated or elected.

2. SELECTION PROCESS:

A. Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students of Classes IX to XII are eligible to contest elections for core posts.
  • Good academic performance
  • Excellent conduct and discipline record
  • Active participation in school activities
  • Leadership qualities

B. Selection Method:

  • Nomination by teachers or self-nomination
  • Interview and/or speech before peers
  • Final selection by a panel of senior teachers and the Principal

3. Tenure

  • The tenure of the Students’ Council shall be one academic session.
  • Members may be replaced if found inactive or violating school discipline.

4. Code of Conduct

  • Council members must serve as role models for all students.
  • Should maintain high standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility.
  • Must respect teachers, school rules, and fellow students at all times.

5. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. School Captain
    • Acts as the chief student representative of the school.
    • Leads all school assemblies, events, and council meetings.
    • Serves as a role model in behavior, discipline, punctuality, and academics.
  2. Head Boy / Head Girl
    • Lead the Students’ Council
    • Represent the school on formal occasions
    • Act as a role model for students
    • Coordinate with the Principal and staff on behalf of the students.
  3. Vice Heads
    • Assist the Head Boy/Girl in all duties
    • Take charge in their absence
  4. Cultural Captain
    • Plan and execute cultural programs, festivals, and competitions.
    • Promote artistic and cultural talents
  5. Sports Captain
    • Organize sports meets and promote physical education
    • Encourage participation in games and athletics
  6. House Captains
    • Lead their respective house in competitions
    • Promote house unity and spirit
    • Encourage participation in inter-house competitions.
  7. Discipline In-charges
    • Maintain order and discipline during school hours and functions.
    • Assist teachers in managing queues, assemblies, and dispersal
  8. Class Representatives
    • Communicate class-specific issues and ideas to the council.
    • Represent their class in council meetings.
    • Communicate Council decisions to classmates
  9. Literary Secretary
    • Encourage students’ participation in debates, elocutions, extempore, essay writing, poetry recitation, story writing, and other literary events.
    • Organize special events like Hindi Diwas, English Week, and Literary Fest.
    • Promote reading habits among students by organizing book fairs, reading clubs, and literary discussions.
    • Assist in scripting and anchoring for school assemblies, annual functions, and cultural programs.
  10. Environmental Secretary
    • Organize awareness campaigns, assemblies, and presentations on environmental issues like pollution, climate change, conservation, etc.
    • Celebrate important ecological days such as World Environment Day, Earth Day, Van Mahotsav, etc., with meaningful activities.
  11. Editorial Board Secretary
    • Lead the student editorial board under the guidance of faculty coordinators.
    • Promote the culture of reading, writing, and publishing among students.
    • Coordinate and oversee the planning, editing, and timely publication of the school magazine, newsletter, wall magazine, and other school literary content.
    • Collect, compile, and edit articles, poems, essays, reports, drawings, and creative content from students and staff.

MEETINGS AND FUNCTIONING:

  • The Council shall meet at regular intervals under the guidance of a designated Students’ Council Coordinator (Teacher).
  • Decisions will be made democratically, with discussions and voting.
  • Minutes of the meeting will be recorded and submitted to the Principal.
  • Monthly meetings to plan, review, and discuss student issues and school activities.
  • Organization of major school functions like Independence Day, Annual Day, Sports Meet, etc.
  • Initiatives for social awareness, cleanliness drives, and community outreach.
